$1 Million Collected for Feeding America at Coinstar Kiosks
Coinstar and Feeding America® today announced a donation milestone hit this year of $1 million collected at Coinstar® kiosks. Coinstar gives consumers the option of donating their spare change at the kiosk to support fund-raising efforts for non-profits like Feeding America.
“More than 41 million people in the United States face hunger, including nearly 13 million children,” said Nancy Curby, senior vice president of corporate partnerships & operations at Feeding America. “Even the smallest amount can have an enormous impact in the lives of people facing hunger, and we are grateful to our partners at Coinstar for proving that small change can make a big difference.”
Hunger hurts everyone, but it is especially devastating in childhood because hunger deprives kids of more than just food. According to the USDA, one in six children in the United States are food insecure – meaning millions of children lack regular and easy access to the meals they need to thrive.
“Coinstar and Feeding America have been partners since 2007 and we’re delighted that the generosity of our customers has contributed to this significant milestone,” said Jim Gaherity, CEO of Coinstar. “Especially now when children are back in school, we appreciate the connection between good nutrition and education and encourage our customers to consider donating their spare change at one of our thousands of kiosks located across the country to benefit Feeding America.”
Feeding America programs, including the Backpack Program, School Pantry Program and Kids Café Program, benefit millions of children and families facing hunger. A donation of just $1 enables at least 10 meals sourced on behalf of the national network of Feeding America partner food banks.
